Removal (excision) of a cyst from the left cheek under local anaesthetics as an office procedure

Posted on: 5 Dec 2023

This pleasant gentleman presented with a cystic skin lesion on the left cheek since last six months. He is planning to get married very soon. We explained to him that there will be a scar which will take approximately 18 months to become soft, supple and inconspicuous following surgery. The procedure was performed under local anaesthetics.

Marking and local infiltration

We were able to remove the cyst completely. The wound was closed into 2 layers using absorbable sutures and the suture line was smeared with topical antibiotics. We do cover our patients with oral antibiotics and provide prescription for an painkillers for a period of five days, we will be bringing him back next week for inspection of the wound and the cyst will be sent for microscopic examination (histology).
