What is Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty?
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat from the upper eyelids. This surgery can address sagging , hooding and tired looks related to upper eyelids. It’s performed for both cosmetic reasons and/or to improve visual function.
Why Do People Opt for Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty?
Aesthetic Enhancement:
1. Looking young: Over time, the skin around the eyes loses elasticity, leading to drooping and puffiness.
2. Refreshed Appearance: Reducing excess skin and fat helps reduces a tired or aged look.
3. Symmetry Improvement: For those with asymmetrical eyelids, this procedure can assist in creating a balanced facial appearance (improvement in asymmetry)
Functional Improvement:
1. Better Vision: Excess skin can sometimes droop over the eyelashes, obstructing vision. Removing this skin can improve sight.
2. Comfort: Redundant skin can cause discomfort and irritation. Surgery alleviates these issues.
3. Enhanced Eye Function: By removing excess weight from the eyelids, patients often find their eyes feel less strained and fatigued. This would mean that the forehead wrinkles would be reduced by reducing the over activity of the forehead muscles .
4. Women complains that it is difficult to apply ‘make up ‘ because of excess skin of the upper eyelids. This can be improved by upper blepharoplasty procedure
Who is a Good Candidate for Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty?
1. Adults with healthy facial tissues and muscles
2. Individuals with realistic goals for the procedure.
3. Patients without serious eye conditions.
4. Non-smokers or those willing to quit before and after surgery.
