Introduction
At MACS Clinic, every surgery is carried out with great care and precision. Following your inverted nipple correction procedure, the healing phase is just as important as the operation itself. Proper aftercare not only ensures smooth recovery but also helps maintain the long-term results of your surgery.
This blog will guide you through the essential post-operative care instructions to support your recovery journey. Please read carefully and follow the recommendations outlined by Mr. Shailesh Vadodaria.
- Nipple Splint Care
To protect your nipple and preserve the corrected shape, a splint has been applied immediately after surgery.
- Keep the splint in place for at least 72 hours and ideally up to 5 days.
- The splint helps prevent the nipple from inverting again during the critical healing phase.
- If the splint loosens or falls off earlier, do not attempt to reapply it yourself. Instead, contact MACS Clinic for guidance.
- Clothing and Support Garments
Your clothing choices play a big role in ensuring a comfortable recovery.
- Do not wear a bra for 6 weeks, as it may put pressure on the nipple.
- If you wish to wear a bra earlier, create a small hole in the fabric so the nipple remains free without compression.
- Choose loose-fitting tops made of soft, breathable materials.
- Avoid lying on your chest, as direct pressure may interfere with healing and final results.

- Medications
Medications are prescribed to ensure a smooth and safe recovery.
- You will be given a 7-day course of antibiotics to minimise the risk of infection. Please complete the full course, even if you feel completely well.
- Pain relief medication will also be provided to help with any discomfort, especially in the first few days.
- If you notice any unusual side effects such as rash, severe diarrhoea, or difficulty breathing, stop taking the medication and contact the clinic immediately.
- Activities and Lifestyle
Your activity level needs to be adjusted temporarily while your body heals.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and contact sports for at least 4 weeks.
- Do not involve your breasts in intimate activities until your surgeon confirms it is safe.
- Gentle daily activities such as walking, light housework, and desk-based tasks can be resumed as soon as you feel comfortable.
- Warning Signs – When to Contact Us
Monitoring your recovery closely is crucial. Please seek medical advice immediately if you notice any of the following:
- A change in the colour of the nipple–areola complex (pale, bluish, or very dark).
- Increasing pain, swelling, or unusual discharge.
- Fever, chills, or flu-like symptoms which may indicate infection.
- Bluish swelling or discolouration around the nipple area.
Early intervention helps prevent complications and protects your surgical results.
- Follow-Up Appointments
Regular follow-up visits are key to monitoring your healing progress.
- Your first review will take place within the first week after surgery.
- A second review will be scheduled around 6 weeks after the procedure to assess your final results.
- Additional visits may be arranged if your surgeon feels they are necessary.

- Emergency Advice
If you experience urgent symptoms and cannot reach your surgeon or the clinic, please do not delay seeking help. Options include:
- Contacting your General Practitioner (GP)
- Calling NHS 111 for non-emergency medical advice
- Visiting your local Accident & Emergency (A&E) department if you feel your situation is urgent or serious
- General Care Tips
A few simple lifestyle habits can significantly improve your healing.
- Keep the surgical area clean and dry unless advised otherwise by your surgeon.
- Do not apply any creams, ointments, or dressings unless specifically prescribed.
- Try to sleep on your back, avoiding pressure on your chest.
- Avoid smoking and alcohol during the initial healing phase, as they can slow recovery and affect surgical results.
